Into the forest with Eve

What is Forest Bathing?

Despite the name, there's no water — and no bath involved!

Forest Bathing, originating from the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, is an immersive sensory experience in the forest. As a certified Forest Bathing Guide, I lead small groups through a series of guided practices that help interrupt the thinking mind and attune your senses more deeply to the magnificence of the natural world.

As you slow down and begin to really see, listen, touch and breathe, you experience the forest as more texturally alive — sounds sharper, colours richer, sensations exquisitely felt. It can feel expansive, energising and deeply restorative; bringing a profound sense of connection in this
more-than-human world.

“I had never noticed how woodland smells before.
And touching leaves, bark and moss was amazing — I had only used vision before.”

My approach

For me, Forest Bathing is about moving out of only thinking about life and into the direct experience of being alive.

We begin with a short walk into the forest, chatting and looking around as we settle into the rhythm of the woodland. Then we come into silence together.

I guide you through a series of invitations to explore the forest through your senses. We might begin by noticing what is close — the crunch of leaves underfoot, delicate patterns within fern leaves, raindrops resting on moss, the texture of aged, cracked spindles of fallen wood.

“I felt an incredible harmony with the forest — connected to everything, from the smallest detail on the forest floor right up to the bigness of the trees.”

Then we open to the wider view — breathing deeply, feeling the height and vastness of the trees, and sensing both our smallness and our deep connection with the living world.

There's nothing to achieve and nothing to get right. Forest Bathing is a sensory experience, uniquely your own. I offer guidance and space for you to discover your own relationship with the forest.

As our attention becomes more finely tuned, the forest can feel extraodinarily alive.

And so can we.

Research-backed benefits

Research into Shinrin-Yoku suggests that spending intentional time in forest environments can:

Lower stress hormones such as cortisol and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety

Lower blood pressure and support relaxation

Improve mood, mental clarity and feelings of wellbeing

Increase natural killer (NK) cell activity, which plays an important role in the body's immune defence

"I've noticed my anxiety is much less – I laugh more at my inner critic!"

Who is it for?

Forest Bathing is for everyone and can be especially valuable for people living with or beyond cancer or illness, and for those supporting someone they love — offering space to reduce stress, restore energy and reconnect with themselves and the natural world.

No previous experience of meditation or mindfulness is needed.

Forest Bathing with Eve

I currently lead Forest Bathing experiences in a beautiful private six-acre woodland near Uckfield in East Sussex, including groups from Sussex Cancer Fund.

At this stage, I offer Forest Bathing through organisations and community groups rather than to individuals.

If you represent an organisation or community group and would like to explore a Forest Bathing experience, please get in touch.
