A Path to Healing

Healing begins here

Maybe you've landed here because life feels overwhelming. Hospital waiting rooms, scans, treatments, or the quiet after it all can leave your mind racing, your body tense, and the world you knew turned upside down.
It's like your thoughts and feelings become tangled, and it can be hard to find your way through

Healing is not the same as curing.

Healing can happen alongside treatment, after treatment, while living with ongoing illness — and when cure is not possible at all. And healing isn't only for the person who is ill. I know that cancer reaches into the lives of partners, family members, friends and those who care for us, who may also find themselves navigating fear, uncertainty, exhaustion and change.

Healing is learning to meet the life that is here.

It is a shift in our relationship with ourselves and with what is happening to us. A movement from being consumed by the story in our heads towards inhabiting our lives more fully — through the body, the senses, our relationships, the natural world and the ordinary moments of our lives.

Cancer can change the story of who we thought we were. Our bodies may change. Our roles and relationships can change. Our plans and assumptions about the future can disintegrate. The thinking mind tries to make sense of it all — replaying what has happened, anticipating what might happen next, searching for certainty where certainty may no longer exist.

Through Meditation, Mindfulness and Forest Bathing, we step out of that relentless stream of thinking and into a more direct experience of being alive.

Meditation interrupts the relentless thinking mind.

Forest Bathing brings us intimately into our senses.

Mindfulness carries that awareness of being into everyday life.

Different practices, but each offers a way back into the direct experience of being here right now.

Through the breath, the body and the senses, we begin to discover that our thoughts and the story of what has happened to us are not the entirety of who we are.

There is a deeper awareness capable of holding fear, uncertainty, grief and change without being defined by them.

And healing doesn't only happen sitting on a meditation cushion or walking through a forest.

It happens when we feel our feet on the earth. When we notice the warmth of sunlight or the movement of a cool winter breeze across our skin. When we become absorbed in the intricate textures, sounds and colours of the natural world. When we move our bodies, connect with another person, laugh, rest, create, love, or find ourselves stopped in wonder by an ordinary moment of our lives.

"These sessions bring me a sense of coming home."

These experiences bring us out of only thinking about life and back into the experience of living it.

And perhaps something else becomes possible too: we begin to notice more of what is already here. Beauty. Connection. Wonder. Gratitude. The people we love. The extraordinary natural world of which we are a part.

“More clarity around how I can participate in life and not be a victim.”

This is why I think of healing as a path rather than a destination.

There isn't somewhere we have to arrive. There isn't a healed version of ourselves waiting at the end.

Healing is learning to meet ourselves and our lives differently — with greater awareness, kindness and courage; trusting more deeply in our own capacity to navigate whatever comes.

For me, this is a path to healing.

Not a promise that everything will be fixed, or that the difficult parts of being human will disappear.

It is a way of living more fully and graciously within the life we have.
